A
"must read" for the newly mothering parent, Full-Time
Woman, Part-Time Career- The Professional Woman's Guide

How many of us have wanted
to stay at home with our children and bring a steady income at the
same time? How many women hate working at their current job and
moving nowhere and feeling like a slave to the system? How many
women would just want to take their career in their own hands and
start a business on their own?
"Full-Time Woman,
Part-Time Career" by Karen Steede Terry is a comprehensive
guide to starting your own business that is not only successful
but most importantly, fits your personality, your lifestyle and
your own expectations. The author divides the book into short chapters
focusing on the very basis of making it work on your own. From the
very beginning of the book, she helps us see what it takes to start
your own business and what kind of qualities are essential in doing
that. She gives a lot of examples and even samples of conversation
starters to promote your business and to get through to a wider
range of potential customers. She goes through the most essential
subjects, such as the start-up cost, setting up the office, writing
business plans and whether you should incorporate or not. She explains
it all in a very clear and comprehensive way, making it easier for
us to make the right decisions that would benefit us in the best
way. The author devotes a big part of the book to advertising your
business, getting and maintaining customers and growing your business
bigger and more successful. She also expands certain types of businesses,
such as professional coaching, freelance writing, teaching software
computer classes and public speaking, where the reader can find
much more detail and tips for starting one of these businesses.
Finally, the end of the book consists of very valuable appendix,
where we can find all kinds of addresses and phone numbers to business
registration agencies, networking organizations, franchise opportunities
etc.
I really liked the fact
that the book was addressed directly and solely to women. The author
knows exactly what kind of obstacles women encounter in starting
their own business and how to work to overcome them. The language
is very clear, comprehensive and to the point. "Full-Time
Woman, Part-Time Career" is definitely a book to be read
if you consider starting your own business.

I read Full-Time
Woman, Part-Time Career cover-to-cover and immediately saw
the mistake I made in starting my own business. By the end of the
first chapter I realized I was guilty of believing I could move
right into part-time work, yet was continually frustrated at how
very long it was taking to get my business off the ground. My goal
is to one day have a part-time business with the flexibility I desire.
What this book informed me of is the time commitment it takes for
any new business. Had I read Karen Terry's book BEFORE I started
my business, I would have approached the past year with a whole
different work schedule and be much closer to my goal.

As a certified life
coach, I have have known many women who are looking for flexibility
in their lives. This book is a step-by-step guide to becoming self-employed
and creating a home-based business using your existing professional
skills. I highly recommend this educational book, which explains
the qualities necessary to go out on your own. I was especially
impressed with the information in the coaching chapter on how to
become a coach. Never before have I found a resource like this for
women, all in one place.

"This
book is appropriate for anyone who wants to start a business, regardless
of gender. I teach at the community college level, and many of my
students are in their 30s to 50s looking to change careers. Most
want to go into consulting, rather than work full time
for a company. Full-Time Woman, Part-Time Career has
been a tremendous resource for them because they wouldnt otherwise
have known how
to get started.

"As a new mom, I am in a situation where I am evaluating part-time
work as an option. Full-Time Woman, Part-Time Career
opened my eyes to some alternatives to a full-time
job and gave me several ideas how to pursue this lifestyle. I especially
enjoyed Chapter 3, the case study of Cynthia Long, a professional
Project Manager. Reading about her made me think this would be a
good fit for me, given my existing skills."

I had the pleasure of reading Karen's book,
Full-time Woman Part-Time Career and would
highly recommend that any woman who is thinking about starting a
business in any field pick up this book. Karen helps you to understand
what you need to know and do to create a flexible business that
fits your life and family.
This book specifically covers women with small children, or who
want to start a business before they have their children in order
to be home for the children they will have. Just like a business
plan or marketing plan, this is a book that will help you create
a stay at home and work for yourself plan that can almost guarantee

"Karen Steede-Terry provides all the ingredients women need
to launch a part-time business without compromising their interest
in spending time with family. Although she emphasizes the benefits
of becoming an instructor, she offers real-world examples of alternative
paths.
Written in a style that's
more advice-bearing-best-friend than impersonal-how-to, I learned
new things from each chapter and I also felt inspired to put them
into practice. As a woman who has runs an international business
part-time, I know firsthand the benefits of Karen's approach and
I recommend her plan to any woman interested in a more integrated
life."

Ms. Terrys
book Full-Time Woman Part-Time Career circulates very
well at the Cedar Park Public Library; in fact weve added
extra copies to meet demand. She recently conducted a seminar for
us which highlighted the information in her book. The seminar was
well-received and provided a positive forum for women who are exploring
the options available to them when trying to balance a home life
with a career. Her advice and information regarding the alternatives
available is thought provoking and motivating. Her book is a great
resource that addresses these very pertinent topics that most women
face at some point in their lives.
