About Karen

For twelve years, Karen Steede-Terry operated her own business in Austin, Texas. She built a successful training practice in the high-tech fields of GPS (Global Positioning Systems) and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) as a Certified Trimble Trainer and an ESRI Authorized Instructor, the two mainstays in those fields. She was the first woman to become certified as an instructor by both companies, and is the only person to have held simultaneous teaching certifications from four different GPS and GIS manufacturers: ESRI, Trimble, Leica, and MapInfo. She is a highly respected software instructor who consistently receives ESRI's "Top 5 Instructor" award, and is the author of Integrating GIS and the Global Positioning System.

As a self-employed professional, many women (and some men) approached Karen, wanting to learn how to start their own businesses. Almost all of the women, many of them new moms, sought a flexible or part-time career they could still cultivate while raising a family. Training seemed like a good option to them. Karen would offer advice and informally coach them through the process of going out on their own and/or starting a business. This experience combined with her collective knowledge, insight, and experience, led her to write her award-winning second book, Full-Time Woman, Part-Time Career.

Now living in Houston, Karen has decided to officially formalize her training and expand the skills she can offer to clients by becoming a Certified Life Coach (CLC). As a coach, Karen brings diverse life experiences - along with wisdom and coaching tools - to guide you, bring out your best, and ensure your success as you embark on your own journey.

In addition to self-employment, she has been in-and-out of the corporate world (and knows the pros and cons of each!), is a published author, and has undergone infertility treatment to become a new mom all over again at 40! She is a member of NSA (National Speakers Association), and currently teaches the "Start Your Own Part-Time Business" workshop for women.
